This Is The 250th Post On Threadbared.com

August 1, 2007 by Mary & Kimberly

It’s also the last one.

I’m sure many readers won’t be surprised; having sensed the death rattle as posting became less and less frequent over the past months. When we started this site just over two years ago we had no expectations of how it would be – maybe people would read it, maybe not. Within a couple of months we had thousands of people visiting every day. Five months in we had a book deal with a major publishing house. It’s all been pretty amazing. But by far the best part of this whole experience has been…you guys. The regular commenters who shared the site with their friends and families, who gently (or sometimes not so gently!) prodded us when we should have been posting and who were always there to chime in with their own hilarious commentary. All of the success we’ve had and the fun we’d enjoyed we owe to our readers – thank you.

As much as we’ve enjoyed doing Threadbared Kimberly and I are both concentrating on other projects these days. It’s been a hard decision to make but rather than continuing to post sporadically and let this site die a slow death I’d rather just pull the plug. Comments will remain open for the next few days and then will be closed throughout the site. Threadbared will remain up for anyone who ever wants to peruse the archives and fondly reminisce about Pattern Erotica, Pantyhose Craft Week, Fantasy Crochet and much much more. Ah, good times…

We will miss y’all.

love,
Mary & Kimberly

    ?Que?

I can not believe this…haven’t I suffered enough grief and loss? Must you withdraw all joy and humor from my stupid little life?
FIRST THE DIVORCE AND NOW THIS?!

No, really, I’ve enjoyed it all so much and will truly miss the creativity and humor…you’re great. Thanks for all the laughs.

  8. on August 1, 2007 at 6:49 pm Tammy

  10. on August 1, 2007 at 7:07 pm neen

I am sad to see you go. Some posts here have made me laugh like never before. My all time favorite has to be that christmas doll “Holy shit…I’m going to be on the cover of a magazine??” (I’m paraphrasing obviously)

    Thanks for the belly laughs.

  11. on August 1, 2007 at 7:32 pm Anonymous

I’m very very sad. I only found this site 2 weeks ago! Ah well, my loss. At least all the archives are new to me. The best of luck to both you sassy dames. Please make something funny for the rest of us soon!

  15. on August 1, 2007 at 8:44 pm chris

  18. on August 1, 2007 at 11:18 pm Molly

I’m so glad we had this time together
Just to have a laugh and sing a song
Seems we just got started and before you know it
Comes the time we have to say, ‘So long.’

Cheers, girls. You had me laughing for two years.
    :)

    I never posted before.

But I just wanted to post now to say I’ve really enjoyed the heck out of your site, and to thank you for doing it. I have, on occasion, laughed so hard I frightened cats, shot wine out my nose, or made myself almost pee. Thanks, guys, and I wish you the best in your future endeavors.

  29. on August 2, 2007 at 1:04 pm ashphalt

Darn! I was hoping you’d start working on my Wife’s collection of patterns!

Thanks for all the humor, and for being a class act up to the end.

  30. on August 2, 2007 at 3:21 pm TravelGretta

OH SAD!!! But it sounds like you’re doing very well, and many congrats for that =)

  31. on August 2, 2007 at 3:47 pm PeacefulDave

So sorry to see you go. You have given me many, many good laughs. All the best in your future endeavors.

  32. on August 2, 2007 at 6:13 pm Kathryn

Let me add my best wishes to you, and my regrets that the site will soon be gone (or at least, no longer updated, which means the same thing on the ephemeral Internet).

Good luck, God bless, and keep purling!

  33. on August 2, 2007 at 7:06 pm Susan

As with all the sentiments echoed before me, I will greatly miss your site. Thank you both for what I’m sure was a lot of hard work, dedication, creativity and last…..but not least, loads of laughs! I wish you all the best in the future. If it doesn’t work out, you can always come back……we’ll leave the light on for you!

  34. on August 2, 2007 at 8:31 pm Desiree

I am going to miss your site sooooo much! It is the first thing I click on in “favorites” after I turn on my computer. I wish you had a chance to post the McCall’s medieval knight costume pattern #3658 (from 2002) I suggested. The Kotex-like appendage from knight A’s helmet is too damn funny! Finally, thanks for making me laugh so hard it scared my poor cat…

  35. on August 2, 2007 at 8:50 pm Lisa

Awwww, couldn’t ya hire some interns to keep the torch burning? We’ll miss the heck out of you guys. :(

  36. on August 2, 2007 at 10:11 pm irene

Thanks for all the laughs, for the embarrassment of seeing patterns I own, and have used, on the site, for the doll crochet patterns, and especially the hand puppets, love the hand puppets! Thanks for the book, it’s a bedside favourite now. Good luck in your future projects.

  37. on August 2, 2007 at 10:43 pm housepig

well, there’s something to be said for going out on top. you will be sorely missed – thanks for the laughs.

Thanks for the many laughs! Best wishes in all you attempt.

  39. on August 3, 2007 at 1:23 am Kay

I’ve been a long-time lurker to the site, and just wanted to say thank you both for the laughter. I love this site, and was honestly pretty crestfallen to hear that it’s over.

Nevertheless, I wish you both success in everything you do.

    *moseys off to the archives*

  40. on August 3, 2007 at 9:17 am Julie

Thanks for the great run! It’s been a lot of fun, but I’m happy for you moving on to new projects. I wish you both the best of luck.

  41. on August 3, 2007 at 1:52 pm Renee

I’m sad to see you go as well. I’ve never laughed so hard, been unable to speak, wet my pants even, while reading anything else online. Of course the dog will be happy that my sanity has returned, and my husband won’t give me those ‘uh-oh, she’s a little coo-coo today’ looks so much anymore. I wish you well in the next endeavor, and thanks for leaving the archives up.

  42. on August 3, 2007 at 2:03 pm mynn

    Thank you for the laughs.

  43. on August 3, 2007 at 3:36 pm Paula

So sorry to see you go. Thanks for the laughs – I will be a frequent visitor to the archives.

Good luck in your new endeavors.

  44. on August 3, 2007 at 4:39 pm AmberBob

So long and thanks for all the fish!!

I’ve enjoyed you more than I could possibly say…perhaps someone will pick up the banner and continue the pattern ridicule…someone should.

    Warmest Regards,

    AmberBob

  45. on August 3, 2007 at 7:52 pm Tina

You gals influenced me to not only look at patterns a new way, but to start collecting them and now selling patterns as my full time job. I owe you a lot and hope your new adventures are as much fun!
    Thanks so much,

I’m glad you’re pulling a Seinfeld, going out on top before it gets stale or burdensome. Blogging is never such a drag as when it’s a nuisance to the blogger(s).

Best wishes in your endeavors. I’m still keeping you in my blogroll though.

    Sharin’ the love,

    Miss Knotty

  47. on August 4, 2007 at 8:55 am Melanie

It was a lot of fun! Thanks.

  48. on August 4, 2007 at 11:43 am Yorkie

Thank you for all the good entertainment you’ve freely given. You were the first to do what you do, always a rare thing. Good luck in your endeavors, and I’m pretty sure that if you ever wanted to take up the idea again, you’d always find a warm welcome.

    Yours,
    Yorkie in North Yorkshire

  49. on August 4, 2007 at 4:23 pm Janna

I echo the chorus of “You will be missed.” Good luck in your future endeavors, truly!

  50. on August 4, 2007 at 9:18 pm mnypny

Sincere thanks to two kindred spirits from yet another Kimberly. You have more than proven that bad patterns and/or hideous pattern photography is not only survivable, but you’ve also, quite thoughtfully I might add, provided the support group mechanism to make it so. I am pleased to report that my vision has been restored and I twitch only occasionally now. Maybe you’ll share your next project(s) with us one day? :)

  51. on August 4, 2007 at 9:45 pm Jeannie

Thanks for the years of laughs and for keeping the archives alive so I can come back and reminisce :)
Best of luck in all your endeavors!!!!! =D

  56. on August 6, 2007 at 3:52 pm Zach

Oh…….. i feel quite upset. I have never posted a comment on here before, and now I feel quite guilty about this. But I visit from time to time, and I am always pleased to see what has been posted. I want to thank you for the belly laughs you have given me. I still can’t knit, and from seeing these monstrosities, it’s perhaps a good job.
But, thank you for all the work you have put into this. I will miss the updates :(
    Best wishes

    Good luck and thanks.
I’ll never be able to pick up another piece of craft without wondering what would Mary and Kimberley think of this?
You have raised my standards to a new level and from now on I promise to always choose my patterns with foresight and care.

PS Can’t wait til “Baby Threadbare” is up and running.

Oh, no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although I have no urge to stab myself with crafting implements, I’m devastated. I love your site and direct people here all time as well as having a link to you on my blog.

    It’s a sad day in blogland…

  75. on August 31, 2007 at 12:09 pm Steve Gattuso

  76. on September 1, 2007 at 1:38 am slr

Geez! I just stumbled onto ya’ll today, and only to find that I am reading the archives! Boo-hoo! Lovin’ the humor, but can I admit that I want copies of a few of the blanket patterns I saw? I am such a geek! (but I will be happy to talk to y’all if you want to get rid of a few choice items….) Best of luck!

  77. on September 2, 2007 at 2:23 am Tom

Now I feel like I’ve wasted all the time I could’ve been hilariously commenting it up.

Oh well, if it has to go, I’m glad I could at least get a couple of friends hooked on it first.

    Thanks for the laughs, ladies.

  78. on September 3, 2007 at 4:15 pm Jan

  79. on September 17, 2007 at 4:15 pm mjae

    So here’s my question:

Would you be more willing to have bled a slow death if you hadn’t succeeded so quickly?

I’m interested because I’ve got four blogs, all of them in various states of stale, yet I can’t bear to part with any of them in case I need to have a forum for something I want to say!

I hope you ladies find a way to keep your connection and ride the wave of your hilarious chemistry together.

It really is too good a gift to give away for good.

You certainly have the right to your own lives, but I personally feel you owe us a bit of your magic from here on out now that we’ve had a taste!

Thank you for your intelligence, your model of friendship and humor, and your generosity. Much appreciated in my circle of smart girls!
